Fishing Report

After a great spring of fishing, summer is now in full effect and the fish are biting good. The Lake is dropping by one foot a week this summer. I am not very pleased with the current water situation, but it has made the fishing pretty incredible. Hopefully the powers that be will resolve their differences and put more water back in our lake. Anyway, back to fishing. For boaters, you are in a position to fish several different ways and in many places. The small stripers are pushing the balls of shad to the surface and beating up on them. So the top water action is pretty good at any given time in any given place. Down below this activity, the slightly bigger fish are lazily waiting for the scraps. Jigs and spoons are good weapons for enticing these linesides down in the depths. Still fishing with cut bait is never better than this time of year. Just remember to chum a lot and mark the spot you chum so if you get blown off of your anchorage, you can return to your chum pile. Shore fisherman don't have it so easy. Most fish do not do well in shallow water in the summer when the surface temp is 85 degrees and stripers are no different. So anglers must try to find a spot where they can fish in at least 25 feet. There should also be a straight line to deep water close by. As we get closer to fall, things will get increasingly better for shore anglers. Cooler water temps will produce some boils and other action closer to the bank. This is your time to shine. Always have a rig set up to cast far and fast. Storm shad, castmaster, bucktail jig and pencil poppers are sure bets for shore casters. The Nevada Striper Club is full of seasoned fisherman. Most of whom have at least 15 years experience. The information stored in these minds is priceless to someone who is new to Southern Nevada striper fishing. At 30 dollars for a family membership per year, this club is the most inexpensive way to learn how to be successful at Lake Mead. Fish Hard and the rewards will come. Tony Resma, Vice President
